Air Force Report: RED HORSE

October 15, 2019

ELEMENTS OF THE 557TH RED
HORSE SQUADRON ARE HARD AT WORK IN SOUTHWEST ASIA.
THIS TEAM, TASKED WITH MANY PROJECTS BUT FEW
RESOURCES, ARE DETERMINED TO GET THE JOB DONE.WHEN
WE CAME IN TO DO THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT, THE
INFRASTRUCTURE ISN’T THERE; WE’RE STARTING OVER
FROM SCRATCH. WE HAD TO COME IN, REESTABLISH ALL
OF OUR C2 CAPABILITIES, ALL OF OUR OPERATIONS. A
PLACE TO WORK, A PLACE TO WORK OUT OF, AND THEN
FROM THERE REINSTATE A CONTRACTING PIECE, GET OUR
OWN MATERIALS AND MOVE ON. NARRATOR: IN THE
BEGINNING, IT WAS JUST A LOT OF DIRT AND WATER,
DIRT AND WATER; MAKING DO WITH WHAT THEY HAVE
AVAILABLE .SO WE PULL MATERIAL FROM THERE, WE
TAKE IT FROM THERE, WE PUT IT OVER HERE. WE COMPACT
IT, WE BUILD UP THE LAND AND VOILA NEXT THING YOU
KNOW OUR PRODUCTS ARE COMING IN, WE’RE PUTTING
CONCRETE AND ASPHALT DOWN AND WE HAVE AN OPERATIONAL
PIECE OF LAND FOR THESE GUYS TO MOVE FORWARD FROM.
THREE MONTHS LATER WITH CONTRACTS APPROVED AND
ASPHALT ON THE WAY, APRON EXPANSION IS SET TO BE
COMPLETED.THE PAST 5 DAYS WE’VE PAVED OVER 1500
TONS OF ASPHALT IN SUPPORT OF THE ARMY FOR THEIR
MEDICAL MISSION HERE.ALTHOUGH IT MAY LOOK
SIMPLE, THERE ARE CRITICAL COMPONENTS TO ENSURE THE
JOB IS DONE CORRECTLY.A LOT OF THE KEY COMPONENTS
ARE BASICALLY THE TEMPERATURES. SO, IF YOU
GET IT AND IT’S TOO COLD IT’S NOT GOING TO COMPACT
RIGHT.A JOB WELL DONE ENSURE THE MISSION CAN
CONTINUE.OUR JOBS HERE HAVE A MAJOR IMPACT IN
OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE BECAUSE THEY’RE SUPPORTING
KEY MISSIONS IN THIS SPECIFIC
LOCATION.REPORTING FROM SOUTHWEST ASIA, I’M
SSGT JOHN RAVEN.
