Central Park Carriage Horse Collapses

August 22, 2019

IS SLIPPED AND FELL. ANTI-CARRIAGE ACTIVISTS ARE DISAPPOINTED THE CITY IS ACCEPTING THAT EXPLANATION AT FACE VALUE. 13-YEAR-OLD MAX IS BACK ON HIS FEET AND BACK ON THE JOB AFTER TAKING FIVE DAYS OFF. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 20 YEARS. ON MY RECORD, I HAVE NEVER DROVE A HORSE THAT HAS ANY INCIDENTS. Reporter: THE HORSE IS FINE DESPITE THESE DISTURBING PHOTOS THAT SHOW MAX LYING ON HIS LEFT SIDE AFTER HAULING INSIDE CENTRAL PARK WEST TUESDAY. THE DRIVER SAYS MAX HAD JUST RETURNED TO SERVICE AFTER AN EXTENDED BREAK AT A FARM UPSTATE. HE HAD NEW SHOES AND SIMPLY TRIPPED. WHEN YOU PUT A NEW SHOE ON, THERE IS ALWAYS A LITTLE DISCOMFORT YOUR Reporter: AFTER THE CARRIAGE WAS UNHITCHED, MAX GOT BACK UP AND WAS QUICKLY CHECKED BY AN INDUSTRY VETERINARIAN AND GIVEN A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH. NEW YORK CLASS, THE GROUP TRYING TO BAN HORSE CARRIAGES SAYS WITNESSES SAW MAX BREATHING HEAVILY BEFORE THE INCIDENT. WHEN A HORSE TRIPS, THEY DO NOT LAY OUT ON THEIR SIDE. THIS COLLAPSED HORSE DID SOMETHING FAR MORE THAN TRIP THAT DAY. Reporter: NEW YORK CLASS ACT CITY REGULATORS TO ORDER MAX BE CHECKED OUT BY AN INDEPENDENT VETERINARIAN BUT THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH REFUSED. ONE MORE DISAPPOINTMENT FOR A GROUP THAT HAS SOURED ON MAYOR DE BLASIO WHO FAILED TO FULFILL A 2013 CAMPAIGN PROMISE TO BAN HORSE CARRIAGES. THE LONGER THE MAYOR DELAYS DELIVERING ON HIS PROMISE, THE MORE THESE HORSE COLLAPSES WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. Reporter: YOU WILL RECALL THE MAYOR’S CARRIAGE BAN NEVER MADE IT OUT OF THE GATE. IS LESS AMBITIOUS PLAN TO SCALE BACK THE INDUSTRY DIED A YEAR AGO AS THE CITY COUNCIL. IT IS NOT CLEAR TO WHAT EXTENT THE ANTI-CARRIAGE ACTIVISTS

  1. more lies…the horse was mad because no one gave him his treats for doing his job that day …….some fresh carrots and a half dozen  golden delicious apples…….and a bucket of cold coca cola to wash it down with…

  2. when come to money horses lose out there hurt, kill every day,of don't work the people who.own them sent the horses to slaughter it No win for the horses ..

  3. I'm fine with horses pulling carriages, with people knowing what they are doing, and the horses get proper care and needs. But I'm not fine with NYC carriage horses, the drivers are usually inexperienced, and don't let the horses rest. Stop NYC carriage horses!

  4. so sad. I never have supported these things. I hope more people will see this and start boycotting these horse carriages .

  5. These horses are trained to stay on their side if they trip…. for their safety. I saw the vet work, he tripped.

  6. "ive never drove a horse with a problem.." drove? seriously? THEY AREN'T VEHICLES! Stop the fucking abuse, poor horse

  7. This horse wasn't overworked, he only slipped and fell and yes horses can slip and fall. I've seen a horse slip before. A lot of people don't know that these horses are trained to stay on the ground until their harness is completely removed. This is a safety precaution that every carriage horse is required to learn. Keep in mind that these are very well trained horses.

  8. Horse-carriages are not bad, as long as the horse gets breaks, enough food, water, green grass (a field) to run around in, about 1 or 2 days a week and a few companions.
It gets cruel when you deny him any of the above. That's what happened in the video.
Instead of taking them out of use…get someone to check the horses.

  9. LOL you horse Tards know nothing about horses… If anything that horse was FAT,over fed (probably bystanders feeding it candy) and under worked… A horse in good athletic shape could run around that park for 8 hours and hardly break a sweat

  10. What in the hell is wrong with you freaking city people!!!!! Take the fucking poor horses away from them shit places and quit giving them business!!!!! You don't give them business and they can't work!!!!! Bunch of stupid ass people like really???! These poor BEAUTIFUL kind horses are being abused right in front of your faces and all you want to do is whine about it!! Do something about it steal them not that hard to do and take them to the country ,where they will be taking well care of!!!!

  11. I don't agree with horses being used on asphalt of any sort but being around harness horses he most likely slipped and fell laid there waiting to be unhooked I've seen this happen with young horses when they flip over or trip in harness though just lay there waiting for someone to unhook them

  12. I own a farm and I can tell you that you should go around checking other farms out and the conditions of horses there . I can tell you that you would be shocked at mistreatment there . The stalls in NYC and the condition of the horses look very good. Liberal POS need to leave their habitat before passing judgment on others seriously

  13. How many homeless human beings collapse and lay recumbent on the sidewalks and in the parks of New York City? I don't see any lettered protesters soliciting the Mayor to do something about that – maybe you should redirect your energies to this worthy cause.

  14. WOW and his “ back on the job” this was not caused by a shoe. That poor baby was exhausted and deserves better then this bs.

  15. The key here is the "EXTENDED BREAK at a farm upstate"  !!!  This time off caused the horse to get unfit and over weight.  The lady is correct though no horse is going to lay on it's side like that after a trip in the street.  I would guess after the break away from work and then working suddenly, it was too much on the horse and it was actually worn out due to not being fit enough and being over weight and started to have a hard time breathing.  The inability to breath caused the horse to basically faint.  There may have been a trip as the driver said, I am sure that is what registered with him.  That was followed by the collapse.    It does not take a Sherlock Holmes to figure this one out.  The downside is the this horse should not work a full day and would be best slowly ramping up time wise.  I doubt they allow for that.  It would have been better if the extended break farm had lunged the horse (no rider) to keep him in shape.   It is sad.

  16. I've been doing this for twenty yars, I've never driven a horse that hard any incidence
People have gel soles and inserts for their shoes, to comfort their stride for walking on hardened walkways that humans created.

Horses get steel nailed to their hooves.

  17. Almost 3.000.00 pounds on top of an innocent horse is an evil fucking deplorarable abuse crime.
    STOP YOUR DISGUSTING ABUSE!
    POOR HORSES.

  18. Horses should be free in fields, with companions, no matter what breed it is and what it was bred for. They should not be in the middle of a city, with ropes, chains, heavy loads hard ground, loud noises and pollution in the air.

  19. If their hooves, sole, and frog were trimmed correctly, the right style of shoe (and in his case pad) were put on, and if it was sized and altered to his feet, gait, and condition, there is no reason for discomfort when shoes are just put on.

  20. justice prevail 2018 and beyond.. how would u like to be there in horse position …. karma guys.. ask them are they thirstyand give breaks u fucking jerk offs

  21. Is the city of New York doing anything about to stop this abusing? The horse need speacial "shoes" to be all day on concrete!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. If a horse trips they recover and keep going just like we do. Ooops and keep walking. They don't lay down on their side. That's ridiculous 😐

  23. Bullshit! He's plum worn out, it's terrible for them to walk on black asphalt! Carriage rides need to be banned!!!

  24. "if a horse trips they will not lay out on their side" apparently you have never seen a horse wearing something trip. If they feel the resistance of a harness, saddle, blanket, or feel there are obstacles too near it is common for them to lay out and wait for you to fix it before trying to get up.

  25. The horse carriage rides around the world have to stop. They're forced to run in the middle of traffic and people, wearing shearing leather equipment and crampons. They're dying in front of people's eyes. We saw one just today collapsing for lack of water. The rider hit the horse and forced it to stand, then rode away with a badly hurt horse.
