NOW. REPORTER: THIS WAS NERVE-RACKING. I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT SUNNY BEHIND ME IS SEDATED. HE WAS SEDATED BEFORE HE WAS AIRLIFTED TO SAFETY. L.A. ANIMAL SERVICES AND FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE CALLED OUT HERE JUST BEFORE 7 A.M.. SUNNY WAS STUCK IN THE FENCE. WE SAW HIS OWNER BEING CONSOLED SEVERAL TIMES DURING THIS OPERATION. WHEN RESCUERS TRIED TO GET THE HORSE OUT HE FELL TWICE, DOWN A 50 FOOTHILL SITE. THGE FIRE DEPARTMENT BROUGHT IN A CHOPPER. THE RESCUE WAS AMAZING. THE L.A. ANIMAL SERVICES SAID ON THE SCALE OF ONE TO TEN IN TERMS OF DIFFICULTY, THIS WAS AN 11 BECAUSE OF THE TERRAIN. HE TUMBLED TWICE AND LANDED WHERE HE WAS DOWN THE EMBANKMENT. HE COULD’VE FALLEN ANOTHER 100 FEET IF THEY WERE NOT CAREFUL. YOU SEE THE HORSES EYES WERE COVERED AND WAS SEDATED F C1 TRIP BACK TO SAFETY. A VET IS ON HAND. CAPTAIN ERIC SCOTT WITH THE FAR DEPARTMENT SAYS THIS OPERATION, RECONFIGURING THE TROP ARE — THE CHOPPER WAS SET UP FOR FIGHTING WILDFIRES.>>HAVING ONE OF THE RESCUE HELICOPTERS COME FROM VAN NUYS. WE REMOVED ITS WATER TANK FROM UNDERNEATH WE COULD HAVE ACCESS AN AREA WHERE WE’LL BE ABLE TO CONNECT AND PUT A SPECIALIZED HARNESS AROUND THE HORSE AND TO BE ABLE TO, AFTER IT SEDATED, LIFT THE HORSE UP ABOVE, WHERE THERE IS A LESS PRECARIOUS ENVIRONMENT TO WORK ON THE HORSE. REPORTER: AIR 7 H.D. CAPTURED THE RESCUE FROM ABOVE. WE HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO TALK TO THE OWNER BUT SEVERAL NEIGHBORS TOLD ME THE HORSES BELONG TO A WOMAN WHO FATHER IS DR. LARSON. DOC LARSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MANY OF THE POPULAR TRAILS. AS FOR SONNY WHO’S 30 YEARS OLD, OUT HERE. HE WAS DEHYDRATED AND EXHAUSTED WHICH MAY BE PART OF THE REASON WHY INITIALLY ONCE HE F
