I’m Kelly on behalf of Expert Village. I’m
going to show you some tips and techniques I use when cantering and loping my horse.
So not that we have our horse moving up into the lope, you are going to want to steer by
picking up and your going to be neck reining. So you want your horse to respond by steering
off of the rein that you lay on its neck. You want to keep applying outside leg pressure,
you look in the direction that you want to go, and you’re just going to pick up and you’re
going to lay that rein. So if you notice, there is slight differences in steering, riding
one handed and Western style verses riding English with two hands. Your steering primarily
off of your outside rein instead of pulling off of your inside reins. There is not a whole
lot of movement with your hands, you’re just picking up laying that rein and she’s going
to go where you want her to. Whoa. So those are some tips and techniques that you can
use when steering your horse at the lope.
