today we are going to make Indian style horsegram dal list of ingredients & quantities are given in the description box here they are : we boil the dal first & then temper it here are the ingredients this is kulthi dal and we have soaked the dal overnight. we will be using the water in which it has been soaked to boil the dal clarified butter finely chopped onion ginger garlic paste asafoetida powder turmeric powder red chilli powder salt garam masala cumin seeds coriander powder lemon/lime chopped cilantro we will boil the dal in the pressure cooker. remember the dal has to be soaked overnight for at least 10 hours keep heat on medium. add the dal & soaking water to the cooker we soaked the dal in 500 ml water add the salt, turmeric powder & asafoetida as well close the pressure cooker & keep heat on medium at the first whistle we will reduce heat to low & cook for 15 minutes more the whistle has gone off, reduce heat to low & cook for 15 minutes more put off gas after 15 minutes & let the pressure subside before opening the cooker time to open the pressure cooker & check on the dal the horsegram has softened but it will take a very long time for the dal & water to combine as one to produce a thick dal. hence we will blend this dal coarsely with a hand blender if you are blending this dal in a mixer then cool the dal before you do so here is the dal after blending coarsely since this dal provides warmth it is mostly prepared in winter we will now prepare tempering for the dal and in a kadahi/wok add the clarified butter and let it melt reduce heat to medium. now add the cumin seeds & let them crackle then add the chopped onions & saute till they turn light pink add the ginger garlic paste & stir a few times and add the red chilli powder, garam masala & coriander powder saute this for 1-2 minutes the masala has been sauteed well. add the dal cook the dal on medium heat & keep stirring occasionally cook the dal till it mixes well and reaches the consistency you desire. our dal has thickened and cooked nicely. we will squeeze the lemon juice into it you can use tamarind or tomatoes instead of lemon juice and some cilantro mix well and cook for one minute more our dal is ready. we will put off the heat & transfer it to a serving bowl and garnish with a little cilantro here is our dish of the day – kulthi dal or horsegram dal. have it with rice or roti do try it & give your feedback if you like the recipe please share our video & also subscribe to our channel and press the bell icon to remain updated on all our video uploads thanks for watching
