August 22, 2019

SO IT GAVE ME CHILLS. >>PATCH IS ONE OF FIVE HORSES UNDER TRAINER TODD PLETCHER CURRENTLY SCHEDULED TO RUN FOR THE ROSES NEXT SATURDAY [email protected] SAY HE IS UNIQUE WOULD BE A [email protected] MASSIVE UNDERSTATEMENT. HE MAY NOT BE A FAVORITE TO WIN DERBY 143, BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE, PATCH IS A FAVORITE ON THE BACK SIDE OF CHURCHILL DOWNS. >>PATCH IS A CUTIE PIE. HE’S BEAUTIFUL, LOOK AT HIM. >>THE [email protected] CONTENDER WITH [email protected] EYE. >>IT’S [email protected] DIFFERENT. WE ANTICIPATED THERE WOULD BE A LOT OF AWARENESS. >>WITHOUT A LEFT EYE, IT’S CRAZY WHAT THIS THREE-YEAR-OLD CAN STILL ACCOMPLISH. >>WE’VE BEEN AMAZED AT HOW WELL HE’S ADAPTED TO THAT. HE’S [email protected] A SEAMLESS TRANSITI TO — NOTHING SEEMS TO PHASE HIM. >>Reporter: I KNOW WHAT [email protected][email protected] A ONE-EYED HORSE NAMED PATCH. A PERFECT MATCH. >>IT WAS DURING THE TIME WE STARTED TREATING HIM THAT HE WAS NAMED THAT. SO I DON’T KNOW IF [email protected] SEALE HIS FATE OR NOT. >>[email protected] DID THIS COLT LOSE HIS LEFT EYE? IT WAS DURING HIS TWO-YEAR-OLD CAMPAIGN. >>NO ONE REALLY KNOWS EXACTLY. WE CAME IN ONE MORNING, HIS EYE WAS SWOLLEN. IT WAS TEARING HEAVILY. NO EVIDENCE OF ANY SCRAPES OR SCRATCHES OR [email protected] TRAUMA OR HI GETTING CAST IN [email protected] STALL OVERNIGHT. >>Reporter: TRAINER TODD PLETCHER HAD THE VET [email protected] TH EYE IMMEDIATELY, BUT NOTHING WAS WORKING. THEY EVEN SENT HIM TO A SPECIAL EQUINE HOSPITAL. >>ESSENTIALLY WHAT HE HAD [email protected] INFLAMMATION IN THE GLOBE OF [email protected] HIS LEFT EYE. >>Reporter: EVENTUALLY PATCH LOST HIS LEFT EYE. HE WAS THEN SENT [email protected] FLETCHER’ FATHER WHO [email protected] A REHAB CENTE >>HE CALLED ME A COUPLE WEEKS LATER AND SAID YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW ANYTHING HAD [email protected] >>Reporter: WHETHER IT COMES TO THE RUN FOR THE ROSES PLETCHER BELIEVES PATCH WILL [email protected] HAVE NO TROUBLE GETTING THE DISTANCE. HE IS LIGHTLY RACED, WHICH IS A CONCERN, BUT IF THERE’S ONE THING HE HAS LEARNED OVER THE LAST YEAR, DON’T COUNT OUT PATCH. >>I HAVE A LOT OF RESPECT FOR THE HORSE. HE’S SUCH A PRO. >>PATCH IS A [email protected] >>GREAT STORY. EVERYBODY IS TALKING ABOUT HIM. WE’RE WATCHING STORMS [email protected]

  1. We have a horse with one eye, we had to remove it because she had ulcers growing over her eyes but, we managed to save her left with severe scarring, she's still one of our best jumpers though
