[ MUSIC PLAYS ]>>WHEN WE GO TO RESCUE A HORSE SOMEWHERE, IF THERE’S OTHER ANIMALS THAT HAVE BEEN ABANDONED OR LEFT OR IN BAD SITUATIONS, WE’RE NOT GONNA LEAVE THEM. WE’VE BROUGHT IN A PIG, WE’VE BROUGHT IN A LITTLE CHICKEN, LOTS OF DOGS. EXCUSE ME, EARL. WE ARE ALL VOLUNTEER-BASED. I’M A VOLUNTEER. I’VE BEEN A VOLUNTEER. WE PUT ALL THE MONEY BACK INTO THE CENTER. I STARTED IT IN 2001. I TOOK A HORSE, WYOMI. SHE WAS THE GATEWAY TO THE OTHER ONES THAT HAVE GONE TO SANCTUARY. THE 29 THAT WE HAVE, WE HAVE 11 SANCTUARY OF THAT. THE RIDING HORSE HAS A BETTER CHANCE AT LONG-LIFE CARE. THE SANCTUARY HORSES, WE FEED AND TAKE CARE OF THEM, BECAUSE IT’S OUT OF MY HEART. WE LOVE THEM, WHETHER WE CAN RIDE THEM OR NOT. WE HAVE SOME OF OUR VOLUNTEERS LIKE MR. BOB. HE’S IN HIS 80s. HE SITS WITH OUR HORSES AND DO YOU WANT TO KNOW, IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.>>IF YOU SAW HOW THESE HORSES WERE ROUNDED UP AND WHAT SOME PEOPLE DO TO HORSES, YOU’D THROW UP. SO, THESE HORSES COME IN HERE WITH ISSUES THAT IT’S NOT LIKE WORKING ON A DOMESTICATED HORSE.>>WHEN YOU WORK WITH THESE HORSES, IT’S, LIKE, THEY’RE NOT THERE TO HURT YOU, BUT THEY’RE NOT OKAY WITH BEING HANDLED. THEY ARE NEVER NOT NERVOUS.>>PEOPLE ARE JUST GONNA HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THEM BECAUSE WE’VE RUINED THEM. AND YOU CAN’T CHANGE THEM. YOU CAN’T CHANGE THE MENTALITY, EVEN WITH BODY WORK AND TRYING TO RELEASE THE BODY.>>WE USE A LOT OF HOLISTIC STUFF. WE USE RAKEE AND CRANIAL SACRAL.>>CRANIAL SACRAL IS AN OSTEOPATHIC PROTOCOL, AND YOU ACTUALLY WORK WITH ENERGY, AND I’VE HAD SOME BIG-TIME CHANGES IN HORSES. THAT’S WHY I COME — ‘CAUSE I WANT TO BE PART OF THE SOLUTION AND NOT PART OF THE PROBLEM.>>WE TRY TO HELP TO OUR COMMUNITY. WE DEFINITELY GET OUT THERE TO LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THESE HORSES, THAT THEY BELONG TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, THEY LIVE OUT IN THE WILD, OUT IN 10 OF THE WESTERN STATES. AND THEY MAKE WONDERFUL RIDING HORSES. THEY MAKE GREAT COMPANION ANIMALS. AND THE WILD HORSES MAKE GREAT TEACHERS FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM, WITH ASPERGER’S. WE HAD A GENTLEMAN BRING HIS SON FOR SEVEN YEARS, AND HE WENT FROM NEVER INTERACTING TO PEOPLE AND ANIMALS, TO TRYING TO TALK TO THE HORSES BY WHINNYING AND TRYING TO MAKE SOUNDS, TO PLAYING BALL WITH OUR DOGS. WHEN I’D WORK WITH A HORSE, HE’D GO GET ME EVERY HALTER AND ROPE, THINKING I MIGHT NEED IT. BUT HE WAS WATCHING AND INTERACTING, AND THAT WAS REALLY AMAZING. SO, I’VE SEEN IT FIRSTHAND. I KNOW IT WORKS. AND TODAY THEY’RE FINDING OUT THAT ANIMAL INTERACTION HELPS PEOPLE TO TAKE THAT WALL DOWN AND WANT TO COMMUNICATE. OUR BIGGEST THING THAT WE ARE REALLY TRYING TO FIND IS LAND HERE IN FLORIDA. OUR HORSES COULD SURVIVE IN A SANCTUARY FOR THE PUBLIC TO ENJOY, AS WELL AS THE COLLEGES TO COME AND LEARN ABOUT. WE COULD HAVE OTHER SPECIES OUT THERE ‘CAUSE THE HORSES GET ALONG WITH IT. I KNOW SOME PEOPLE MIGHT THINK, “WELL, IT’S JUST A HORSE.” BUT I’LL TELL WHAT, YOU WORK WITH HORSES, THEY HAVE FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS, AND THEY GIVE BACK TO YOU WAY MORE THAN YOU CAN EVER GIVE TO THEM.
