Hi, I’m Holly Heidemann on behalf of Expert
Village and in the sport of barrel racing there is something that happens that’s called
shouldering a barrel that a horse will do where they actually, I’ll show you on Bailey,
if the barrel was sitting here he would drop this shoulder down into the dirt and he would
try and turn like that. To keep that from happening we want to get that horse’s shoulder
stood up. So I’m going to lift that inside rein up, I’m going to keep my shoulder up
and I’m going to keep this horse from shouldering this barrel by lifting that shoulder up. You
notice my hand is in this area, it is not down here pulling, if I were to come down,
I’m going to run over my cameraman, but if I were to come down like this, notice what
happens with that horse’s shoulder. See how straight his shoulder goes with his head.
Watch the difference between that and when I bring my hands up. My hands up, my shoulders
up. Watch how his shoulder stands up his nose comes in and he’s able to keep himself aligned
and in that turning pattern much easier.
