Top Sprinter, Broodmare, Artemis Agrotera and her Arrogate Foal

November 4, 2019

When I first went out to see the filly, I
couldn’t believe how powerful it was. Artemis Agrotera herself is a big horse and
Arrogate is a big horse, and the filly looks like she has just an absolute ton of speed. A really big hip, a great shoulder, looks
incredibly fast. I guess it makes sense with Unbridled Song
being a champion two-year-old, Artemis Agrotera being a Grade 1 winner at two, and then Arrogate’s
third dam is also a champion two-year-old. So there’s a lot of chance for precocity in
that mating. I’ve been like really, really, really lucky to
be working for Mr. Broman for many, many years. Artemis herself was a very big scopey filly
that, you know, she had the pedigree that two-turn on the dam side, speed on the sire
side, and I’ve always been a fan of trying to put a little speed in families that perhaps
had a little too much distance in ’em. With Arrogate it was very important for us
to have as much speed as possible because he could run all day. He really started doing his best running at
three. So we thought it was important to mix in some
two-year-old speed in the book, and with a horse like Artemis Agrotera, she broke her
maiden by 11 at Saratoga, then went on to Belmont and won the Grade 1 Frizette in her
very next start. She obviously had a ton of talent at two,
but what was amazing about her is she trained on and won a Grade 1 at three sprinting also. Not only is she a multiple Grade 1 winner,
she’s out of a graded stakes horse. Her second dam was a graded stakes horse,
the dam of a Grade 1 winner in Stephen Got Even, and the third dam was a graded stakes
horse. He loves when he picks out the matings or
is particularly involved. Artemis’s mother Indy Glory was a Grade Two
stakes winner of which Mr. Broman raised. He bred Indy Glory. He bred that entire line. The other thing that was very important for
us is the Broman’s breeding a mare like this to Arrogate. I mean, they’re owner-breeders that have had
a ton of success in New York and the whole country at the top levels, and with their
know-how, we were happy to be a part of the hopeful ingredient for them to breed another
Grade 1 winner from this amazing family. When we talked to Leif about breeding to Arrogate,
I mean Mr. Broman was at Saratoga when Arrogate ran. Saratoga is a very special place to him because
he is a native New Yorker. And so it was just really, really a good fit
for him to be able to have an Arrogate baby that’s a filly. She’s already had a two million dollar two-year-old,
which was super important, to show that she’s kind of throwing herself with that kind of
precocity, so yeah, we’re very excited about the Arrogate she has on the ground. She is beautiful and she’s obviously throwing
beautiful. You look at the two million dollar two-year-old
that she had. I mean, he’s an absolutely gorgeous horse. She is a beautiful horse. Unbridled Song was well known for throwing
beautiful. Arrogate himself was a $560,000 yearling. So it’s good looking on good on both sides
of the family.
