[Tuto] Customize a doll horse – Customiser un cheval de poupée

August 14, 2019

Hi crafters ! Today I’ll show you how I customized my doll horse This one is a Our Generation Horse But you can use barbie horses for this type of project I took this one because they are large enought for my doll to ride it without looking too tall Let’s go ! I begin with cuting the hair off I attach them in order to maybe use them later But I find them too shiny so it doesn’t looks realistic And they are very damaged so I don’t think I’ll be able to fix them anyway Then, I’ll put a paint base on all the body That will matify and whitening but also to let acrylic paints to bond thereafter As I said, I’ll put the base paint everywhere Even on the hooks, under the hooks On the eyes and ears etc… On the darker parts of the body, I’ll put a second layer a base paint using a sponge Camera didn’t move But of course I let it dry for a moment I begin with what I think the most difficult which is the eyes So I’ll begin with painting the iris Atfer putting a light blue base I take lighter blue to paint a sort of sun in the iris Then I pain the pupil Warning : horses’ pupil aren’t round but more like a horizontal oval There, I don’t wait for the paint to dry I use a very thin and wet brush to make striations To finish, I’ll do a very thin line all around the iris with a dark blue almost black It’s difficult but take your time if you make a mistake just clean with a cotton bud and add white paint after Now I have to do the pink tissue in the corner of the eye For that, I paint a light pink triangle and then a darker pink point When I’m happy of the result I’ll secure my work with fimo polish to make sure I won’t damage it thereafter I moved on the body I want to make a tobiano coat so I paint the shape of the spots When I’m happy of the spots’ position I’ll color them Before coloring the spot around the eye I’ll previously paint this eye contour For that, I begin with painting the eye contour in dark grey Then, I take a lighter grey And I take a even lighter grey The color difference will brought more realism and more relief Now I can color the brown spot I begin with a thin brush to create hairs around the eye And then I take a thicker brush to color all the spot more rapidly Go painting the other eye For that I begin with painting the contour with a light pink I enhance the eye relief with a slightly darker pink Finally, I take a nail art sponge soaked with the light pink and I buffer the color all around the eye For a natural rendering I use the same color to get the nostrils pink I take again the slighlty darker pink to blush the nose tip and the corner of the lips For the nostril hole I begin to paint with a dark uhhh… brown that I put in the darker point And I buffer with a lighter brown Here it looks messy but I will put pink on it after to make it looks cleaner Here is the result after putting pink For the inside of ears I put pinky beige On the edges I won’t let it like this, I’ll create hairs to make it look more realistic I do the same for the other ear but in dark grey this time I use a second color slighlty darker to paint inside Similiary, I will create hairs to make it looks more realistic Let’s move on the hooks So, there I will put a light beige base paint using a thin brush for edge in order to avoid overflowing As you can see on these images, I took a slighlty darker beige on the hook where there isn’t leg mark After thoses steps, we can apply spray polish to make sure to don’t damage the paint we already put To make realistic hooks in an easy manner, I have a cool technique I begin with a great layer of brown soft pastel on the hook If it is a tobiano horse, you can also use black soft pastel and make black stripes Then, I take a brush in a shape of a range, and I use it firstly in the horizontal direction That will make nice and thin stripes I clean the brush and use it in the vertical direction this time I put some polish to secure soft pastels I keep on making the coat I want it to look roan on some places and for that I use a beveled silicone brush that I soak in white acrylic paint then I create some stripes in the natural hairs direction as you can see To help myself I look roan horses pictures Here, it isn’t very difficult it simply demands patience Here is the result at this stage Then I blur the edges of the spots with a white soaked sponge voilà, we can see the difference between the right where I put white paint and the left where I didn’t it looks a lot more natural I do the same in the inside of the spots with dark brown paint Then I will enhance the hollows of my sculpture in order to show more relief For that, I take really dark brown on the brown spots For the thigh hollow, I use pink soft pastel For the butt, this time I use light pink acrylic paint that I buffer with a sponge In order to doesn’t make it look too clean, I use black soft pastel that I sprinkle everywhere For the other hollows like those on the shoulder, I use grey soft pastel Another detail that I add and which as a good effect is to add hairs on the hooks After another layer of spray polish, and because mine is mate, I’ll put shiny polish on the eyes to bring them out It’s time make its crest For that I bought doll hair in different sizes : So I took 1 meter of weft in 15cm hair long for the forelock 3 meters of weft in 25cm hair long for the crest But it is a little bit too much and 1 meter of weft in 30cm hair long for the tail I begin with the tail. For that I spread out the weft and I roll it up In fact, I’ll sew it rolled up And in fact, I won’t sew all the weft rolled up I will just took the right diameter to fill the tail’s hole Therefore I’ll glue my rolled up sewed weft in the tail’s hole I’ll use the leftover that I’ll fold and sew to double it I’ll take this double weft and I’ll glue it all around the tail’s place I use tongs and masking-tape to put aside the tail so it won’t bother me during the process For the last round, I glue the weft flat as you can see that will permit to hide the edge of the weft Then I take the tail’s fiber and I attached them up that will serve to place the fibers in the right direction we can also use straightener for place them For the crest, I transfer the right length directly on the horse And I use this lenght to cut two other wefts of the same length and then I sew them together And I do this process twice Then I glue the weft direclty on the horse Here I change my mind so I take it off, and I’ll glue it again in the other direction When the weft are completly glued, turn back the fibers and make them stay in the right direction thanks to a straightener Use te same process to do the forelock To finish this doll, cut the hair with thinning scissors That won’t make a too clean-cut edge and make a natural rendered The principle when you use thinning scissors is to cut going down I think the images speakes themselves Then I comb the fibers to remove all the tiny fiber pieces that could be stuck in And here is the final result I hope that you enjoyed this video. If you were, subcribe or leave a like, it’s always a pleasure but above all, if you have any question, don’t hesitate : the comment aera is here for that See you soon ! Bye
